■ Abstract:

The objective. To investigate the presence and concentration of toxic substances in the body, including the heart tissue, of patients with congenital heart diseases (CHD) and in children without cardiogenesis violation. Patients and methods. We had studied the presence and concentration of 22 toxic metals and metalloids in 321 biosubstrate of different tissues (skeletal muscle, kidney, hair, tissues of the heart, great vessels, and others.) by atomic emission spectrometry in inductively coupled plasma and atomic absorption spectrometry with electrothermal atomization of 55 patients with cardiovascular malformations, and 24 - without heart defects, that died due to various reasons. Results. In patients with abnormalities of the cardiovascular system we had revealed wider spectrum of toxic elements (13 of 22, when in control group - 9) and heavy "load" of their quantity (both 5 and more toxic substances had 46.4% patients with malformations and 25.0% in the control group). In malformation locus revealed an average concentration level of toxic elements was higher than in heart tissues without cardiogenesis violation. Patients with CHD more frequently (65.5%) had the existing of barium toxic concentration, including 62.5% in heart and great vessels (in the control 37.5% and 26.3% respectively) . In malformation locus barium average concentration exceeds an allowable level of 22.7 times and was statistically more higher than in physiologically formed tissues of the cardiovascular system (p = 0,002). Conclusion. The results of the study suggest about the features of the toxic substances content in the body, including the heart tissue, of patients with malformations compared with children without cardiogenesis violation.
